President Biden, during his visit to Ireland this week, took a selfie with a controversial Irish nationalist who had once been banned from British airwaves due to his role as the public face of the Irish Republican Army.

Gerry Adams, who is a former leader of Irish republican party Sinn Fein, took a selfie with Biden on Thursday.

"A presidential selfie," he tweeted.

Adams was president of Sinn Fein between 1983 and 2018. During the height of the IRA’s terrorist bombing campaign in the 1980s and 1990s, as part of its efforts to end British control over Northern Ireland, Sinn Fein acted as the political wing of the IRA.

Adams has always denied membership in the IRA itself, although he has continued to face allegations that he was involved in its terrorist activities. Adams was one of a number of Irish republican officials who were banned from British airwaves by the government of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

Adams ultimately played a key role in moving Sinn Fein away from the IRA and helped secure the Good Friday agreement -- which largely brought an end to the terror campaign. He was later arrested in 2014 in connection with a 1972 murder, but was not charged.

Biden has a lengthy history with Adams. The pair have been photographed together before, and Biden was one of a number of senators who reportedly angered the British in the 90s by arguing publicly for Adams to be allowed into the U.S.

The Daily Telegraph reported that Biden wanted Adams to be given a visa in 1994, arguing it would bring him into the ongoing peace process, but that then-Prime Minister John Major’s government were angered by the move -- who did not want him to receive prestige and credibility. 

Documents obtained by the Telegraph showed that President Bill Clinton’s ultimate decision to grant Adams the visa left Major so angry he was not able to speak to his American counterpart until he was "in a calmer mood."

Biden, who had once argued against the extradition of IRA terror suspects to face trial in Britain, has faced accusations of being anti-British and those accusations appeared during the Irish trip.Democratic Unionist Party Leader Arlene Foster said this week on GB News that Biden "hates the United Kingdom, I don’t think there’s any doubt about that."

The White House rejected that claim, describing the president’s track record as showing "that he is not anti-British."

"The president has been very actively engaged throughout his career dating back to when he was a senator in the peace process in Northern Ireland and that has involved meetings with leaders of all of Northern Ireland parties from both of the two main communities," Senior Director for Europe at the National Security Council Amanda Sloat said in a press conference. "The UK remains one of our strongest and closest allies and it's difficult, frankly, to think of an issue in the world that we are not closely cooperating with the British on."

Denver Area High School Closes After Deaths of Three Teachers – Causes of Death are Still Pending

 

This week, a high school in the Denver area was forced to close after the death of three teachers, USA Today reported.

After the deaths of 24-year-old Madelaine Michelle Schmidt and 63-year-old Judith Briere Geoffroy, authorities at Eaglecrest High School in Aurora canceled all after-school events and classes for Wednesday.

“It is with great sadness that we share with you that Judith Geoffroy, ILC para, and Maddie Schmidt, ILC teacher, both passed away in the last 24 hours,” the district released in a statement. “These tragic deaths appear to be of natural causes and are unrelated. We have shared these losses with our staff and will have the district mental health team available to assist them in coping with their grief.”

According to Arapahoe County Corner’s Office, Schmidt experienced symptoms of bacterial meningitis before her death.

An individual at Eaglecrest High School has been diagnosed with Neisseria meningitidis, a bacterial infection of the blood that can cause meningitis. Meningitis is a serious infection involving the lining around the brain and spinal cord. The symptoms can include severe headache, stiff neck, fever, chills, sleepiness, rash, nausea, vomiting, and being disoriented.

The bacteria are in saliva and may be spread from person to person through sharing food, beverages, eating utensils, or by kissing. Being in the same room or standing near the infected person is not considered extended close contact or a risk factor for infection. Symptoms of Neisseria meningitidis can develop 1-10 days following extended close contact (most commonly within 3-4 days).

Arapaho County Public Health and Eaglecrest High School are identifying and contacting persons who have been in close contact with the individual. These persons will be directed to contact their health care providers regarding appropriate intervention to prevent the spread of, or development of, the disease. However, if your child has any of the above symptoms, please contact your doctor immediately and bring this letter with you to any appointments or medical visits.

Arapahoe County Corner’s Office also suggested that Judith Briere Geoffroy experienced symptoms of bacterial meningitis.

 

USA Today reported:

Another teacher who worked with Schmidt at the same school also died over the weekend, Kelly C. Lear, a pathologist with the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office, confirmed.

Judith Geoffroy, a 63-year-old paraprofessional in the Integrated Learning Center, died but her official cause of death had not been confirmed according to a statement released Wednesday.

Lear said both the bodies of Geoffroy and Schmidt will undergo additional tests in the coming days.

“The causes of their deaths are pending ancillary testing; the presence or absence of bacterial meningitis will not be confirmed until those additional test results are final,” Lear wrote in the statement.

A third teacher in the school district also died over the weekend, but worked at a different school, Snell said.

Cherry Creek High School freshman baseball coach and Willow Creek Elementary Physical Education teacher Scott Nash passed away over the weekend.

Boycotting Bud Light? Here Are All the Brands Owned by Beer’s Parent Company

Anheuser-Busch, a formerly great and formerly American-owned company that recently poured its credibility with normal people down the drain, is a lot bigger than most people might realize.

Bud Light, the international company’s flagship low-calorie brand, was this country’s best-selling beer last year. But Anheuser-Busch (AB InBev) owns a lot of brands in a lot of stores.

Bud Light partnered up with transgender social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney — and the rest is history. Sales are reportedly slumping as its parent company has shed billions in market value in recent weeks.

People whose hearts and minds have not been corrupted by the left’s war on gender are rightly boycotting the company, and The Western Journal is here to help.

 

 

The idea of a boycott is generally synonymous with the American left and not so much with conservatives who hold traditional views on life, love, marriage and biology.

We are people with tendencies to keep to ourselves.

But “live and let live” has its limits.

If you support a neighbor who plays with fire for long enough he just might set your house on fire.

In the case of Anheuser-Busch v. Normal America, the company used profits it made from its former friends and neighbors to further the goals of those who seek to threaten their way of life.

Bud Light’s marketing VP announced last month the company wanted to distance itself from its past clientele. Bud Light has, of course, traditionally been purchased by blue-collar people, younger drinkers and people generally associated with middle America.

The company chose a side in the culture war — and it picked the side that does not generally associate itself with affordable domestic beer.

Bud Light picked the side that is currently attempting to convince young people — including children — that it is completely rational behavior to castrate themselves and otherwise mutilate their bodies.

No one represents that cause better than Mulvaney, who Bud Light helped celebrate by putting his face on a can of its beer.

The now-European-owned beer giant could have stayed quiet and sold its products. But leadership couldn’t leave well enough alone.

People across the country are reporting seeing beer aisles in their local stores full of Bud Light that suddenly no one wants to buy.

Conservatives, in this instance, have chosen a tactic that works quite well for the left.

While some on the left have accurately pointed out other beer companies that have celebrated LGBT “pride” month in years past, Anheuser-Busch crossed a line by partnering with Mulvaney to validate his perverse claims of “womanhood.”

A boycott is underway, and it is important to make people who have chosen to participate aware of Anheuser-Busch’s vast catalog of drinks, so they are armed with the facts the next time they attempt to balance having a cold one while also not supporting mastectomies for children.
