Frightening new fungus 'candida auris': What is it? Who is susceptible?

Experts weigh in on potentially deadly fungus detected in over half of US states

Cases of a potentially deadly fungus have risen to an alarming rate — sparking a warning from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that it is an "urgent threat" in a recent release about a new study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine.

Cases have soared nearly 200%, from 476 cases in 2019 to 1,471 in 2021 — and those cases were detected in over half of U.S. states, the CDC report found.

Candida auris or C. Auris is a fungus typically found in hospital settings and long-term care facilities.

It is a type of yeast.

CDC SAYS CASES OF LETHAL FUNGUS TRIPLED IN RECENT YEARS

It can cause severe infections and death in those who are immunocompromised or have underlying medical issues and indwelling devices, health experts told Fox News Digital.

The first case in the United States was back in 2013, with early cases found mainly in New York City and Chicago, according to the CDC published report.

"Candida auris is a strain of yeast that has been found in hospital settings," Dr. Frederick Davis, the associate chair of Emergency Medicine at Northwell Health on Long Island New York, told Fox News Digital.

The concern with this particular strain, he said, is that "many recent cases have been found to be resistant to commonly used medications to treat infection and in the limited number of cases have had a 30% to 60% mortality rate."

"In chronically ill patients in health care facilities, it can enter the bloodstream through areas of open wound."

Davis was not involved in the CDC report.

He said the fungus "is usually not a threat to healthy individuals. In some people, it can reside on one’s skin and around the mouth or rectum and not cause any symptoms or concern. This is called asymptomatic colonization."

Catheters could also be a source of transmission, said one medical expert, as they're usually inserted many times through the skin, where candida resides.

However, he said, "in chronically ill patients in health care facilities, it can enter the bloodstream through areas of open wound and lead to a symptomatic infection."

Those with an implanted device are more susceptible to this type of infection because the devices offer a surface for the fungus to colonize, the emergency medicine physician said.

POTENTIALLY DEADLY DRUG-RESISTANT FUNGUS SPREADING RAPIDLY IN US

Catheters could also be a source of transmission, he said, as they're usually inserted many times through the skin, where candida will reside.

The fungus is resistant to many drugs that would be used to treat it.

"While most candida infections can present as a red patchy rash, the main concern is when candida gets into the bloodstream through an open wound. This will lead to fevers and look of sepsis."

Davis said this includes symptoms such as an increased heart rate and low blood pressure.

The other major concern about it, as health experts shared Fox News Digital, was that this type of fungus is resistant to many drugs that would be used to treat it.

Candida auris is a difficult-to-treat fungus; it's already becoming resistant to many medications.

"There are many types of antifungals; some of them work, and some of them don’t," said Aaron Glatt, M.D., chief of infectious diseases at Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital on Long Island, New York.

"The concern is that these candida auris [infections] are already becoming resistant to many different types of antifungals available, so you are really limited in how you treat" them, he said.

"Bugs, fungi — they adapt," Glatt said.

Precautions such as wearing gloves and gowns and properly washing hands could help limit the exposure.

He equated the ability of the fungus to adapt, much as a person adapts by putting on a sweater when it gets cold.

This adaptability of this fungus strain creates a threat to patients with underlying medical issues, he said.

People need to be aware of preventing the spread of the fungus, especially in nursing home facilities, hospitals and long-term care units where there are vulnerable populations, said one medical expert.

"This is becoming more of a concern in very immunocompromised patients," he said.

The infectious disease expert said while this type of fungal infection is not something that healthy people typically need to be concerned about, they do need to be aware of preventing the spread of the fungus, especially in nursing home facilities, hospitals and long-term care units where there are vulnerable populations.

Precautions such as wearing gloves and gowns and properly washing hands could help limit the exposure and help prevent the spread of this fungus strain.

One possibility for the dramatic increase in cases of the fungus, according to the authors of the CDC report, could be due to decreased infection control measures during the pandemic, due to the strain that COVID-19 put on health care systems.

The strain resulted in shortages of staff and equipment, increased antimicrobial use and an

Deadly fungal infection spreading at an alarming rate, CDC says

·4 min read

A drug-resistant and potentially deadly fungus has been spreading rapidly through U.S. health care facilities, a new government study finds. The fungus, a type of yeast called Candida auris, or C. auris, can cause severe illness in people with weakened immune systems. The number of people diagnosed with infections — as well as the number of those who were found through screening to be carrying C. auris — has been rising at an alarming rate since it was first reported in the U.S., researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Monday. The increases, “especially in the most recent years, are really concerning to us,” the study’s lead author, Dr. Meghan Lyman, chief medical officer in the CDC’s Mycotic Diseases Branch, said in an interview. “We’ve seen increases not just in areas of ongoing transmission, but also in new areas.”

The CDC's new warning, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, comes as Mississippi is fighting a growing outbreak of the fungus. Since November, at least 12 people have been infected with C. auris with four "potentially associated deaths," according to the state's health department, Tammy Yates, spokesperson for Mississippi State Department of Health said in an email. There has been ongoing transmission at two long-term care facilities, although cases have been identified at several other facilities in the state.

"Unfortunately, multi-drug resistant organisms such as C. auris have become more prevalent among our highest risk individuals, such as residents in long-term care facilities," said Yates.

The fungus can be found on the skin and throughout the body, according to the CDC. It's not a threat to healthy people, but about one-third of people who become sick with C. auris die.

In the CDC report, researchers analyzed state and local health department data on people sickened by the fungus from 2016 through Dec. 31, 2021, as well as those who were “colonized,” meaning they were not ill but were carrying it on their bodies with the potential of transmitting it to others who might be more vulnerable to it.

The number of infections increased by 59%, to 756, from 2019 to 2020 and then by an additional 95%, to 1,471, in 2021.

The researchers also found that the incidence of people not infected with the fungus but colonized by it increased by 21% in 2020, compared to 2019, and by 209% in 2021, with an increase to 4,041 in 2021 compared to 1,310 in 2020.

C. auris has now been detected in more than half of U.S. states, the new study found.

Most concerning was the increasing numbers of fungus samples resistant to the common treatments for it. Lyman hopes the paper will put C. auris on health care providers’ radar and spur facilities to practice “good infection control.”

The new findings are “worrisome,” said Dr. Waleed Javaid, an epidemiologist and an infectious disease expert and director of infection prevention and control at Mount Sinai Downtown in New York.

“But we don’t want people who watched 'The Last of Us' to think we’re all going to die,” Javaid said. “This is an infection that occurs in extremely ill individuals who are usually sick with a lot of other issues.”

Even if C. auris moves beyond health care facilities and into communities, it’s unlikely to become a problem for healthy people who do not have invasive medical devices, such as catheters, inserted into their blood vessels, Javaid said.

The main problem is preventing the fungus from spreading to patients in hospital intensive care units, Javaid said. Unfortunately C. auris can colonize not only people who come in contact with the fungus, but also patient rooms.

“By its nature it has an extreme ability to survive on surfaces,” he said. “It can colonize walls, cables, bedding, chairs. We clean everything with bleach and UV light.”

While the fungus was first identified in 2009 in Asia, scientists have determined that C. auris first appeared around the world about a decade earlier, after they re-examined older data and discovered instances where C. auris had been mistakenly identified as a different fungus, Dr. Graham Snyder, medical director of infection prevention at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, said in an interview.

“It’s the pattern we’ve observed with these types of pathogens,” he said. “Often they start out extremely rare, then they emerge in more and more places and become widespread.”

It's important to stop the pathogen so it doesn’t spread beyond hospitals and long-term facilities like the drug-resistant bacteria MRSA did, Snyder said.

“It’s not unusual to see MRSA in the community now,” Snyder said. “Will that happen with C. auris? I don’t know. That’s partly why the CDC is raising the alarm.”

EPIC! DC Resident Destroys Fauci And DC Mayor Muriel Bowser as They Go Door to Door to Track Down Unvaccinated (VIDEO)

A Washington DC resident excoriated Dr. Anthony Fauci and DC Mayor Muriel Bowser as they went door to door in his Anacostia neighborhood encouraging residents to receive the Covid -19 vaccine

In footage going viral on social media, the DC resident blasts Fauci and the Democrat lawmaker for coercing the public to inject themselves with the Covid “vaccines,” a gene-editing technology that has taken more lives than any vaccine in history and prevents no transmission against the man-made virus.

“The people in America are not settled with the information that’s been given to us right now. So, I’m not going to be lining up, taking a shot or a vaccination for something that wasn’t clear in the first place,” the man admonished. “And then, you are going to create a shot in a miraculous time. It takes years to create vaccinations.”

“It used to take years –” Fauci interjected.

The former NIAD chief attempted to justify premature mass Covid vaccination, arguing the mRNA technology contained in the vaccines took decades to develop.

“Do you know how many years were invested in this approach? About 20 years of science to get us to be able — ” Fauci noted before then DC resident shut him down again.

“Twenty years is not enough, and nine months is definitely not enough for nobody to be taking this vaccination that you all came up with,” the man lamented.

WATCH:

Bowser, who continues to institute some of the most stringent Covid mandates in the country argued refusal to get Covid-vaccinated is a detriment to the world.

“The only reason I am talking to you right now, as close as we are, is that I’ve been vaccinated,” Bowser said. “But if the thousands of people like you don’t get vaccinated, you are going to let this virus continue to percolate in this country and in this world.”

The man compared Covid to the common flu, prompting Fauci to cite the massive number of Covid deaths.

“It’s much more serious than the flu,” Fauci insisted. “You know how many people died of the flu the last year? I mean, not this year — virtually none, but the previous year? About 20 to 30,000. Do you know how many people have died of Covid-19 in the United States? Six-hundred-thousand Americans. ”

The government’s attempt to bribe people into getting vaccinated and its figures surrounding Covid deaths should not be trusted, the man shot back.

“The number that you are all given that died, that’s once again, that’s you all’s numbers,” he said. “Because when you start talking about paying people to get vaccinated, when you start talking about incentivizing things to get people vaccinated, there is something else going on with that. It’s something else going on with that. ”

Flustered by the pushback, Bowser conceded, “There is something going on with it. You’re right.

“But I’m glad millions of people like me and almost everybody here didn’t get an — you know what their incentive was? Protecting their health and protecting the city. But, I won’t keep you anymore.”

Fauci, Bowser and their entourage walk away during the encounter as the DC resident rebukes their fear tactics.

“Your campaign is about fear. It’s about inciting fear in people. You all attack people with fear, that’s what this pandemic is,” the man chided. “It’s fear. It’s fear this pandemic. That’s all it is.”

WATCH: Anthony Fauci Blames Anti-Vaccine Mandate Republicans for COVID and Says He Will Break Their Will

The Gateway Pundit reported earlier about about DC resident filleting Dr. Anthony Fauci and DC Mayor Muriel Bowser as they went door to door in his Anacostia neighborhood encouraging residents to receive the COVID -19 vaccine.

The exchange was documented by PBS as part of an upcoming program on Fauci. The incident reportedly happened back in June 2021.

Now more video has emerged from that June day. The footage shows Fauci talking to Bowser and revealing exactly what he thinks of Republicans who question the COVID shot and vaccine mandates.

Spoiler alert: he literally hates their guts and believes re-education is the pathway for refusing to obey his dictates.

Bowser asks Fauci what they’re going to do about “those other states” (meaning GOP states) in regards to those not mandating the COVID shot.

Fauci responded:

Oh my God. They (Red-State Republicans) are going to keep the outbreak smoldering in the country (for refusing to get vaccinated). It’s so crazy.

They’re not doing it because they say they don’t want to. They’re Republicans. They don’t like being told what to do. We need to break that.

Wanting to re-educate people and force them to bend the knee is precisely what communist countries. This simply proves the old adage that inside every “progressive” is a totalitarian screaming to get out.

Americans should be eternally grateful that Fauci is no longer in government.

21-Year-Old Irish Cricket Player Dies “Within Days of Cancer Diagnosis”- Oncologist Believes It May Be Vaccine Related

Last week, a bowler from Ireland was diagnosed with testicular cancer  after experiencing dizziness in the gym.  On Monday morning, the County Down bowler passed away.

As reported by the Belfast Telegraph:

Tributes have been paid to a young Co Down bowler who died days after being diagnosed with testicular cancer.

Daniel Donnan from Donaghadee was taken to hospital after he suddenly fell ill towards the end of last week.

It’s understood he experienced a dizzy spell in the gym and numbness down one side of his body.

The 21-year-old was rushed to the Ulster Hospital where he was treated for a bleed to the brain, but medical tests revealed tumours which had already spread to his brain and lungs.

Dr. William Makis, a nuclear medicine radiologist at the Cross Cancer Institute, published a substack over the weekend that raised questions about a sudden onslaught of testicular cancer cases among young, otherwise healthy athletes and other physically fit men.

In Dr. Makis’s piece, he points out a “fact check” that COVID-19 vaccines cause testicular cancer.  The fact check, of course, denies any relation between testicular cancer and the experimental jab, but does concede there were four German footballers in the first league that have gotten testicular cancer since 2022.  Dr. Makis points to another article claiming that number is as high as 14.  He then mentions that it’s also rugby players, skiers, cricket players, and even a 32-year-old military member in California.

Some cases are “extremely rapidly progressive, like this one: ‘late stage less than 2 months from 2nd jab…spread everywhere.'”

Dr. Makis notes that the COVID-19 spike protein is not only is known to localize in the testes, but a woman’s ovaries get 40x more LNP-mRNA over 48 hours!

Perhaps this explains the miscarriages that have surged in the VAERS system since the roll-out of this experimental “vaccine”.

Dr. Makis concludes by asking how long and to what degree does the spike protein continue gathering there?  There is no answer, according to his report, because Pfizer didn’t look beyond 48hrs.

The Gateway Pundit has previously reported on the problems that have arisen over the last couple of years regarding reproductive health around the rollout of these jabs.

Clinton settles sexual harassment suit, Nov. 14, 1998 (paid $850,000)

This Day in Politics

Clinton settles sexual harassment suit, Nov. 14, 1998

Paula Jones chats with Roseanne in 1998.

In the aftermath of the settlement payment, most of which went to Jones’ attorneys, Robert S. Bennett, Clinton’s attorney, maintained that Jones’ claim was baseless, and that Clinton agreed to settle only to end the lawsuit and move on.

According to Jones’ account, on May 8, 1991, when Clinton was serving as governor of Arkansas, state troopers escorted Jones, a low-level state employee, to Clinton’s room in Little Rock’s Excelsior Hotel (now the Little Rock Marriott), where he propositioned her and exposed himself.

Jones said she kept quiet about what had happened until 1994, when The American Spectator, a right-wing magazine, published an account of the alleged encounter by David Brock. Jones filed a sexual harassment suit against Clinton on May 6, 1994, two days before the expiration of the three-year statute of limitations.

In a deposition taken in Jones’ suit, Clinton, testifying under oath, was asked whether he had ever had sexual relations with Monica Lewinsky, a White House intern. He denied it. Subsequently, he was accused in the House impeachment proceedings of having lied under oath — after incontrovertible evidence surfaced confirming sexual contacts between the president and Lewinsky.

The lawsuit also triggered a landmark legal precedent by the Supreme Court, which ruled that a sitting president is not exempt from civil litigation for acts committed outside of public office.

Jones, who in 2016 had endorsed Donald Trump’s presidential candidacy, was interviewed in 2017 by reporter David Friend for Vanity Fair magazine. He asked her whether, if she had to do it all over again, she would go through with the lawsuit.

“Yes,” Jones replied, “because I’m who I am today because of it. I’m a stronger person. I was a very, very introverted, shy, quiet, submissive-type person before all this. [In addition], it has made a lot of key laws. Like, for instance, if somebody files a lawsuit about sexual harassment in the workplace, they’re going to go get my case. I think it’s probably made it a lot better for women in the workplace because of what happened with my case.”

Friend noted that “Jones is aware she was a pawn in multiple games.” “My lawyers,” she told him, spurred her “to do certain things that they wanted me to do and it’s almost like they were pushing me. They were using me for their own agenda. … Both sides were using me.” She continued: “Then, when I posed for Penthouse — Lord, I was a heathen! Oh, I couldn’t have been a Christian — that’s what so many people thought.”
