The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published a warning about the rare Ebola-like Marburg virus Thursday, advising American public health officials and doctors to be on the lookout.
There are two confirmed outbreaks of Marburg virus disease (MVD) in Tanzania and Equatorial Guinea. The CDC says the pathogen likely spilled over from wild animals to humans.
There have been no reported Marburg diagnoses in the U.S., but the CDC seeks to "increase awareness of the risk of imported cases in the United States."
The disease is usually spread through contact with infected blood or other bodily fluids rather than airborne transmission.

"Currently, the risk of MVD in the United States is low; however, clinicians should be aware of the potential for imported cases," the CDC said.
The disease has epidemic potential, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). It has high fatality rates — out of eight Tanzanian cases reported so far, five of the patients died.
Equatorial Guinea officials reported their first outbreak Feb. 13, where there have been 14 confirmed cases and 10 deaths. The Tanzanian government announced its first-ever outbreak of MVD on March 21.
SILENT PANDEMIC' WARNING FROM WHO: BACTERIA KILLING TOO MANY PEOPLE DUE TO ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE
Symptoms include headache, fatigue, sudden fever, unexplained bleeding and gastrointestinal symptoms. Muscle and joint pain and loss of appetite are also common.
The incubation period is usually two to 21 days. The CDC noted that the disease is sometimes difficult to diagnose.
"Many of the signs and symptoms of MVD are similar to other infectious diseases (such as malaria or typhoid fever) or viral hemorrhagic fevers that may be endemic in the area (such as Lassa fever or Ebola)," the CDC said. "This is especially true if only a single case is involved."
The CDC says the disease's mortality rate is anywhere from 23% to 90%. There is no Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved vaccine for the disease, but fluid replacement and intensive supportive care in its early stages can be successful.

Nike continues to receive backlash after transgender influencer Dylan Muvaney posted multiple photos to social media modeling its sports bras and leggings.
Mulvaney, whose face was recently put on honorary cans of Bud Light by beer maker Anheuser-Busch, posted the photos to Instagram on Wednesday.
On Thursday, Olympian Caitlin Jenner announced the launch of the "Fairness First PAC" in order to "fight the radical gender ideology, put parental rights at the forefront of education, and keep boys out of women’s sports."
TRANSGENDER FEMALE GOLFER BREANNA GILL WINS WOMEN'S TOURNAMENT IN AUSTRALIA
Sharron Davies, the winner of a silver medal in swimming at the 1980 Olympics, called for the public to boycott companies such as Nike on Thursday.
"Nobody really seems really to be listening to the general public," Davies said on GB News.
"And that’s what seems to be incredibly frustrating. So, the only way we can actually make these companies and make governments listen is to boycott with our wallet."
Davies pointed out that Mulvaney is promoting a sports bra, an item of clothing that "doesn’t apply" to Mulvaney.
"Like you said, sports bras when there was nothing to put in the sports bra, when it’s really important that all women get proper support when they do sport. It just doesn’t make sense," Davies said.
"For a long time, they [Nike] sponsored Allyson Felix, one of the world's most incredible track athletes. And then when Allyson got pregnant, they reduced her sponsorship by 70% when she had something happen to her that happens only to women.
"It’s just this total disdain that women are being treated to at the moment, particularly in the world of sport where physiology makes so much difference." Davies continued.
Nike’s latest campaign comes as transgender participation in sport has become a major political issue.
On Thursday, former NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines was physically assaulted following a speech at San Francisco State University to students about saving women's sports at a Turning Point USA and Leadership Institute event on the campus.
"The prisoners are running the asylum at SFSU...I was ambushed and physically hit twice by a man," Gaines wrote in the tweet. "This is proof that women need sex-protected spaces. Still only further assures me I'm doing something right. When they want you silent, speak louder."

The son of far left Democrat activist Rebekah Jones was arrested this week, following threats of shooting up a school.
Jones has been on a one-woman mission to go after Ron DeSantis and other Florida Republicans for years.
It looks like she needs to spend more time focused on her own family.
The Pensacola News Journal reported:
Rebekah Jones’ son arrested in Florida after allegedly threatening to shoot up school, stab students
Embattled former state of Florida employee Rebekah Jones announced on Twitter Wednesday night that her 13-year-old son had been arrested in Santa Rosa County for “digital threats of terrorism.”
According to the tweets, Jones said an officer told her a warrant had been issued for her son’s arrest after authorities received an anonymous report about messages her son shared in a Snapchat group.
Jones says that someone claiming to be a cousin of one of her son’s classmates joined their private Snapchat group. She says the person recorded the conversations and reported them to the police after her son shared a popular internet meme criticizing police.
An incident report released Thursday afternoon by the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office allege that the 13-year-old made repeated threats to shoot up Holley Navarre Middle School and to stab students who angered him.
Investigators interviewed multiple students who spoke with the teenager, as well as those who saw messages he posted on social media. In the messages to his friends, the teenager made the following statements, among others:
“I want to shoot up the school.”
If I get a gun I’m gonna shoot up hnms lol.”
“I’m getting a wrath and natural selection shirt so maybe but I don’t think many ppl know what the columbine shooters look like.”
Naturally, Jones tried to blame this on DeSantis:
Also, her son wasn’t taken from her. She turned him in. Watch: i can't get them to copy so go to the link at top of this post)
The liberal media tried to cover for her by claiming her son was arrested for memes, but that’s simply not true.
