RICHMOND, Va. (WKRC) - A mother allegedly drowned her twin 1-year-old sons in the bathtub, leaving their bodies in the water until police arrived.
According to police information obtained by local outlets WRIC, WTVR, and Augusta Free Press, officers responded to a residence at 8:39 p.m. on April 17 after receiving a report about two injured children.
First responders arrived to find two 17-month-old children with "apparent drowning injuries" still in the bathtub, according to WRIC. The children were removed and taken to a hospital where one was pronounced dead immediately, while the other succumbed to his injuries days later.
The children's mother, 21-year-old Amaya Dixon, was arrested on May 7 in connection with their deaths, outlets reported. No information about Dixon's motives or methods was released.
Dixon was charged with two counts of felony murder and two counts of child neglect.al to $1,000, financial exploitation of vulnerable adults greater than or equal to $1,000, stolen property (intent to sell greater than or equal to $1,000).
