A bus driver is under arrest after she allegedly passed out behind the wheel from a heroin overdose and rolled through an intersection and into a tree. There were 12 children on the bus at the time, all with special needs, but none were injured.

Lisa Byrd, 57, was charged with 12 counts of endangering the welfare of a child, driving while impaired and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The crash took place in Newark, New Jersey, as she was driving children home on Wednesday at about 1 p.m. Video obtained by New York ABC station WABC showed the bus rolling at a slow rate of speed through an intersection -- covered with snow from an ongoing storm -- and hitting a small tree by the side of the road.

"Driving while impaired is dangerous enough, but adding children to the situation is particularly irresponsible and heinous," Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said at a press conference Wednesday.

Police sources told WABC the woman is suspected to have been on heroin. It is not clear when she took the drug.

Byrd had to be revived on the scene with Narcan by medics, police said. Narcan, the brand name for the drug naloxone, is used to treat an opioid overdose, including heroin.

She was taken to University Hospital in Newark for further treatment.

"Endangering the lives of Newark children is something we will not tolerate," Newark Mayor Ras Baraka said. "We are grateful that none of the students were injured and that no other residents were harmed due to this incident."

The 12 children on the bus, ages 5 to 13, were from the 14th Avenue School, police said. They were assessed on scene by paramedics, but none suffered injury.

Officials said Byrd's driver's license was suspended from 1996 to 2006, though they did not specify why it was revoked.

F&A Transportation, which employed the driver, did not respond to a request for comment from ABC News.

The bus and towing company is located in East Orange, New Jersey.

Woman smashed Bronx restaurant windows with bat over out-of-stock beef patties, police say

New York police are seeking help to identify a woman they say slugged out the windows of a Bronx restaurant when it didn't have beef patties.

The incident last month began when the unknown suspect entered Back Home Restaurant, a Jamaican and American eatery, and ordered a beef patty with cheese, police said Saturday.

"The individual was informed that there were no beef patties in stock at which time the unknown individual became irate," police said in a statement.

That's when she walked out and broke the restaurant's window and glass front door with an aluminum baseball bat, police say.

Video shows the suspect taking multiple swings at the glass. People on the sidewalk try to intervene but to no avail, according to the video . The suspect then walks away.

Police say there were no injuries.

According to police, a motorist intentionally struck a woman on Wednesday (local time).

The victim was hit in the right hip, went airborne and landed on her left side.

Authorities say the woman suffered multiple injuries to her head, shoulder, hips and knees.

Police say a male pedestrian seen in the video fled the scene. Investigators say he’s romantically linked to Lawrence.

A 24-year-old Nashville musician is dead and five juveniles have been charged in the fatal shooting.

Kyle Yorlets, the lead singer of Carverton, was robbed and gunned down behind his home at about 3 p.m. on Thursday. On Friday, three girls — ages 12, 14, and 15 — and two boys — 13 and 16 — were all charged with criminal homicide after being arrested at a local Wal-Mart.

A Metropolitan Nashville Police Department spokesperson said they had been investigating a 12-year-old girl who had run away from home, reported The Tennessean. During the search, the girl was seen in a Snapchat video in a car “with other young people with guns.” Investigators think the group, allegedly driving a stolen car, was in an alley behind Yorlets’s home, and they approached him to rob him. While they allegedly took his wallet, the shooting is believed to have occurred after he refused to give up his car keys.

After the shooting, a wounded Yorlets made his was inside his house and remained there — for an hour or two — before he was discovered by a housemate. He still had a faint pulse, according to the police spokesperson, and was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. However, it was there that he was declared dead.

The police spokesperson called Yorlets an “absolute innocent victim.”

Police have not yet identified which of the minors pulled the trigger, but said all five are known to police and the court system. Per local law, the three suspects over the age of 13 have been publicly identified. However, many media outlets are opting not to report them because they are minors.

Yorlets, a vocalist and guitar player, grew up on a farm in Pennsylvania but headed to Music City with bandmate Michael Curry to establish themselves in the pop/rock band space, according to the Carverton website. In Nashville, they met Christian Ferguson and Michael Wiebell to “complete the band,” which played at the Firefly Festival and has toured across the country.

On Friday, the band paid tribute to Yorlets, who graduated from Belmont University in Nashville in 2017 and worked at local restaurants, saying, “On February 7, 2019, we lost our brother, best friend and bandmate Kyle Yorlets. We are in a state of shock and are having to grasp the reality that is now in front of us. “We are heartbroken. Our condolences for his family and loved ones and all the lives that he touched. We will never forget Kyle, and though he is gone too soon his legacy is here to stay.”

The band had an album release show planned for next month, among other scheduled events.

The publicist for the band, Jen Appel, said that funeral arrangements are pending, according to The Tennessean.

A colleague from the restaurant Pastaria, where Yortlets worked, spoke out, saying he was “such a kind and forgiving person.” She asked people to “send prayer and good thoughts towards the Yorlets family, his girlfriend, his friends and extended work families.”

A GoFundMe has been established to help with funeral costs and travel expenses for Yorlets’s family. So far it has over $7,000 of its $10,000 goal.

A 911 dispatcher is getting praised for taking the time out of her day to assist a young caller who needed help with his homework.

Antonia Bundy, who works for the Lafayette Police Department in Indiana, stayed on the phone with a boy who dialed the emergency number to say he “had a really bad day” and had “tons” of homework.

The boy, whose identity is not known, told Bundy that he had math homework he was struggling with.

In the audio recording posted by the Lafayette Police Department on Twitter Friday, Bundy is heard calmly working with the boy as he adds his fractions. When they finish the problem, the boy lets her know that it was the only problem he was stuck on.

“I’m sorry for calling you, but I really needed help,” he said.

“When a young child calls to ask for homework help, Antonia didn’t miss a beat,” the Lafayette Police Department wrote in its Twitter post.

“We get a lot of unusual call requests, but this one kind of stood out,” said Lafayette Police Sgt. Matt Gard.

While the Lafayette Police Department doesn’t recommend dialing 911 for homework help, many people are praising Bundy on Twitter for her generosity.

According to Gard, police are trying to figure out which area school the boy attends so they can connect with him through the school’s principal.

“We want to make sure everything is good, and make sure he knows we appreciate him calling,”
  Gard said.

An Army veteran says he was asked not to wear a shirt that read “2016 Trump for President” at a gym in Troy, Mo., on the ground that it made members uncomfortable and was “racist.”
Staff Sgt. Jake Talbot told St. Louis news station KMOV that he had worn the pro-Trump shirt to CDY Fitness in Troy before. But on Sunday, the owner of the gym asked him not to wear the political shirt again.
“I was just puzzled there for a second. She said that it was racist and represents racism and that’s when I when I was like ‘Oh, you’re done,'” Talbot told the outlet.
Talbot, who had been a member of the gym for eight years, took to Facebook to voice his displeasure over the incident.
He says in the video that the gym owner, whom he refers to as ‘Liz,’ said the shirt was linked to “racism,” adding, “Which I freaking hate that word, it’s thrown around way too loosely. It’s 2019, get the hell over it. It’s not racism.”
The owner, whom the St. Louis Post-Dispatch identifies as Liz Drew, released a statement on the gym’s Facebook page, which has since been deleted from the social media platform.
According to KMOV, the message read, “I am deeply saddened by the amount of hate this event has garnered. I will personally and publicly continue to defend my stance for tolerance and against hate no matter the financial consequence. … Allow me to clarify. I don’t believe our gym should be a political forum for anyone. I want everyone to feel safe and comfortable there. We are all trying to improve ourselves and work hard to change.”

Members of CDY are divided, and some have threatened to cancel their membership over the T-shirt incident, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

On Wednesday morning, gym owner Liz Drew told the Post-Dispatch that she had deleted the gym’s Facebook account after receiving thousands of hateful messages, including threats to burn down her gym.

“This was about protecting the comfort level of all members and keeping politics out of my gym. Sadly, it has done just the opposite,” she said.

She disputed Talbot’s claim that she told him to remove the shirt.

“I said, ‘Jake, we’re friends and I love you, but I’d appreciate it if you didn’t wear that shirt in the future,'” Drew told the Post-Dispatch.

The gym’s owner, however, legally did nothing wrong and was legally entitled to ask Talbot not to wear the shirt. Attorney Lynette Petruska told KMOV, “The business owner really didn’t violate any First Amendment or anti-discrimination law.”
Another gym in Talbot’s area has offered him a free one-year membership after his Facebook video went viral, according to St. Louis news station KSDK.
Jake Talbot did not immediately respond to Yahoo Lifestyle’s requests for comment.
