Shocking footage has emerged of an out-of-control man locked in an altercation with a sheriff before gaining control of her gun and firing it at her.
 
The bullets fired at the officer missed and she luckily escaped the incident without life-threatening injury.
 
The San Bernardino County sheriff's deputy had responded to calls from a distressed mother in Victorville who pleaded with police to remove her son from her home, shortly before 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
 
Deputy Meagan Forsberg arrived on the scene in the 13000 block of Cabazon Court and attempted to arrest the man but he evaded her and a fight broke out.

In distressing scenes, the man can be seen punching the deputy multiple times in the face and head before a short struggle for her weapon ensues.
He gains control of the gun and proceeds to fire it at the officer multiple times as she attempts to run away.
'He got the gun, standing like this and pointing at her. Because she was on the ground just waiting, just waiting to get killed,' a neighbour told ABC 7.
Moments later, three police cars with their sirens blazing arrive on the scene and the man appears to surrender before another shot can be heard.

According to local media reports, Officer Meagan Forsberg did not sustain any bullet wounds, and was taken to hospital without serious injury.

The suspect, who police have identified as 21-year-old Ari Young, was seen being placed on a stretcher and taken to hospital. His condition is not known.
 
In an online blog for 'Vita Atletica', Officer Forsberg describes herself as a single mother whose favourite food is sushi. She said her proudest achievement is her job.
 
'I know it sounds cliche - but there were so many times I wanted to give up and go down the easier path..and I am so happy I stuck with it,' she said.
 
When asked what advice she would give to her younger self to promote and encourage self-love, she said: 'This is the hardest thing, I know. I battle with it everyday.
 
'There is something special and unique about every single person on this planet. Find yours, and shine. Don't let social media tear you down.'

Mom who was teaching son to drive killed in Milwaukee road rage shooting

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – A Wisconsin man was charged Wednesday in a fatal road rage incident that took the life of a mother who was teaching her son to drive.

Matthew Lee Wilks, 35, of Whitefish Bay faces one count of first-degree intentional homicide in the death of Tracey Smith, 47, and one count of being a felon in possession of a gun.
According to the criminal complaint:

Smith's son told police he and his mother were driving Friday to Playmakers, a clothing store on Fond du Lac Avenue in Milwaukee. He said he that as he was turning left onto Fond du Lac, a gold van cut in front of him from the lane to his right and collided with the front passenger corner of his car.

He said he stopped in the intersection, and the van stopped. His mother got out of the passenger seat to inspect the damage. He saw Wilks open the van door and stand on the running board looking back.

Smith's son said his mother was yelling at Wilks when he said, "Bitch, I'll kill you," before shooting her once in the chest.

Smith said, "He shot me," and fell to the street. As her son and other bystanders ran to help her, Wilks did a U-turn and drove away.

Smith's son drove her to a hospital where she was pronounced dead about 35 minutes later, at 5:38 p.m

Video from the area revealed the van's license plate, which was for a 2004 GMC Savanna van registered to Wilks. Smith's son picked Wilks' photo from among several as the man who shot his mother, a sergeant for the Department of Corrections who worked at the Milwaukee Secure Detention Facility.

Wilks had a 2008 conviction for distributing cocaine and possessing a gun as a felon.

Missing Indiana 10-Year-Old Found Strangled in Trash Bag Inside Shed, and Stepmother Is Arrested

The Indiana 10-year-old girl who was reported missing by her stepmother on Saturday has been found dead — and police have arrested the stepmother on murder charges.

Amanda Carmack, 34, was taken into custody at 3 a.m. Wednesday shortly after investigators found the body of Skylea Carmack in a shed behind her Gas City home.

Police say Skylea was strangled. Her body was found in a plastic garbage bag.

She had been missing since Saturday. Police believe she was already dead when Carmack reported her missing around 9 p.m. that night.

“I believe [Amanda] contacted the father and said she couldn’t locate Skylea and the dad prompted her to call law enforcement,” Indiana State Police Sgt. Tony Slocum tells PEOPLE.

Slocum says investigators believe Skylea was killed between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

 

 

  As to the motive, Slocum says, “our concern at law enforcement is who and how versus why.”

Adding: “There is no rational answer for why anyone would kill a 10-year-old. As a police officer, as time goes on, it was a possibility — but I held out hope. Our main focus was to find her alive and safe, and obviously that did not occur. I am sad and angry it happened on our watch.”

A statewide Silver Alert was issued when the girl disappeared Saturday.

At the time, police and her father thought the girl may have run away because she had done so in the past.

Skylea’s dad Kevin Carmack told FOX 59 that he believed his daughter ran away because she had been grounded.

“And it just went a little too far and she got stuck and now she’s just scared to come home cause she’s afraid now she is going to be in even more trouble,” he predicted.

Carmack said he wanted his daughter to know that, “We’re not even mad at this point; we are just worried about her being OK and just want her to come home.”

Carmack is facing charges of murder, domestic battery resulting in death and neglect of a dependent causing death.

Ohio Teens Charged For Allegedly Tainting Crepes With Bodily Fluids

Seven Ohio boys will face charges for allegedly serving food tainted with bodily fluids to their teachers.

The students ― six of whom were age 14, one age 15 ― were charged on Tuesday with delinquency felony counts for an incident that occurred May 16 at Olentangy Hyatts Middle School in Powell.

During a “Global Gourmet” home economics class, the suspected students reportedly placed bodily fluids into crepes that were later consumed by several adult victims.

Three students are facing a delinquency felony assault charge for either putting semen on one teacher’s crepe, putting urine in barbecue sauce poured on crepes later served to four teachers, and bringing semen to school to put on a crepe, according to The Columbus Dispatch.

Meanwhile, four other students will face charges of delinquency complicity to assault a teacher for participating, aiding and abetting or doing nothing to stop it. 

One of the teens also is accused of delinquency tampering with evidence for deleting video of the event along with text messages from his phone.

Officials for Olentangy schools released this statement to local station WBNS:

We are aware that charges have been filed in this case and we thank law enforcement for their due diligence. As a district, we are saddened that these charges are a result of actions that took place at one of our schools. Our teachers deserve respect and kindness, and anything less than that is completely unacceptable. We will continue to support law enforcement in every way possible.

Brad Koffel, who is representing the students, believes the they deserve a second chance.

He told The Columbus Dispatch that the students come from “very, very good families,” have admitted to the acts, have expressed remorse and “have suffered more at home than they’re ever going to get in the court system. The aberrant nature of this has left an indelible mark on them.”

He then blamed social media notoriety, “the idiotic stuff that other teens are watching to get clicks,” for inspiring the students.

Fans were initially confused by the fiery rant, but the New York Post‘s Page Six soon cracked the case. The outburst was intended for 10-year-old fraternal quadruplet brothers, who have achieved notoriety for posting music to their ZN8tion Instagram account, which boasts over 143,000 followers.

Two weeks ago, the Westchester, New York natives  — who go by the names Hollywood, Slim Z, Bonez McKoy and Mr. Great — posted a scathing diss-track against Cardi, saying she’s “washed up,” “belongs in a zoo,” and smells like a “turd,” among other schoolyard insults.

DeAndre Hopkins skipped practice over late Houston Texans owner Bob McNair’s 2017 comment likening NFL players to inmates.

In a GQ interview published on Tuesday, the Texans wide receiver admitted that he almost skipped a game.

McNair, who died in November at 81, reportedly made the comment during a 2017 owners meeting while discussing how to approach the issue of players kneeling during the national anthem to protest issues of social injustice and police brutality.

“We can't have the inmates running the prison,” McNair — a campaign contributor to President Donald Trump — said at the meeting, according to ESPN.

Hopkins: ‘Hell yeah, I was about to sit’

Hopkins, a Colin Kaepernick supporter who has knelt in protest, expounded on his response to McNair’s comments in the GQ interview.

“Hell yeah, I was about to sit out the game,” Hopkins said. “But I definitely wasn’t going to practice. A couple of my teammates about to follow me, but they called them back up to the stadium. They tried calling me, but I wasn't going back. Hell no.”

The game in question was a matchup against the Seattle Seahawks that saw Hopkins and several of his teammates take a knee after he eventually decided to suit up. Hopkins told GQ that he ultimately played in order to not let his teammates down.

Hopkins: ‘It feels like I’m a slave again’

 

The seventh-year pro who grew up in South Carolina explained how McNair’s comments felt to a man who’s a descendant of slaves with family members who relayed stories about living in the Jim Crow South.

“It's hard for people to understand what that means, when your family was slaves,” Hopkins said. “You can't relate to something like that if your great-uncle's not telling you stories about their parents or their grandparents and what they went through. Not even too long ago, people couldn't even drink out of the same water faucet.”

Basically, Hopkins explained, it made him feel like he was being treated as a slave.

“It feels like I'm a slave again,” Hopkins said. “Getting ran over. Listen to the master, go to work.”

Hopkins gives McNair benefit of the doubt

Hopkins did go on to call McNair a “good man” in the interview, giving him the benefit of the doubt of his upbringing.

“When you grow up certain places, you talk a certain way,” Hopkins said.

Hopkins, a three-time Pro Bowler, continued to talk of his support of Kaepernick, noting that before Deshaun Watson arrived in Houston he hadn’t had the benefit of working with a Pro Bowl quarterback.

After working with the likes of Tom Savage, Brock Osweiler and T.J. Yates, Hopkins argued that it was obvious that Kaepernick was being blackballed from the NFL.

“Ain't no way around it,” Hopkins said. “You can't sugarcoat why Kaep is not playing in the NFL. This dude played in the Super Bowl.”

7 fatally shot, 34 wounded in Chicago during Labor Day weekend gun violence

CHICAGO – Gun violence over the Labor Day weekend left seven people dead and an additional 34 wounded in Chicago on the South and West Sides, according to police.

Two teenagers were among the weekend’s shooting fatalities, WLS-TV reports. They include 15-year-old Davantae Jackson, who was shot early Sunday just steps from the home where he lived. The teen was supposed to be starting high school Tuesday.

Jackson’s sister, Alexis Jackson, says her brother’s assailants called him on his phone and asked him to come outside before opening fire.

A Saturday shooting left two men, ages 32 and 26, dead after they were shot on the front porch of a home on Chicago’s South Side. That shooting also wounded three other people.

The weekend violence occurred as Chicago police added an extra 1,000 officers to patrols during the three-day holiday weekend, down from an extra 1,400 officers last year.

The violence is up from Labor Day last year when 27 people were shot, including four fatally. This year's violence more closely resembles that of Labor Day 2017, when 42 people were shot, including seven fatally.

Other holiday weekends this summer witnessed similar spikes in gun violence. Over the Fourth of July weekend, 68 people were shot, five of them fatally, and on Memorial Day weekend, 41 people were shot, seven fatally.

Following the Labor Day weekend of violence, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said in a tweet Monday that gun control "doesn't work," citing Chicago as an example.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot responded to the tweet Monday night, criticizing Republican inaction on gun legislation.

August experienced its lowest number of murders and shootings since 2011, the CPD announced Monday in its monthly crime report. Shooting incidents were down 19% for August compared to the same month last year, and overall violent crime reported to the CPD in August fell 15% citywide compared to August 2018.

The CPD announced that it has recovered more than 7,500 guns this year, up 21% from this time last year.

Mayor Lightfoot and Superintendent Eddie T. Johnson also announced the launch of a new citywide GunStat Initiative last week.

"This collaborative effort is designed to track gun offenders from their arrest, prosecution, sentencing and ultimate release, in an effort to identify trends, strengths and address any weaknesses within the criminal justice system," the CPD said.

Sept 3 (Reuters) - A 14-year-old American boy shot and killed five family members at their home in Alabama, before throwing away the pistol and calling police, officials said on Tuesday, in the latest high-profile gun crime.

The shooting occurred on Monday night in the town of Elkmont, a spokesman for the Limestone County Sheriff's Office told media, including an ABC affiliate.

The sheriff's office said five people were shot, with three dying at the scene and two later in hospital. "The 14-year old caller was interviewed and confessed to shooting all five members of his family in the residence," it said on Twitter.

"He is currently assisting investigators in locating the weapon, a 9mm handgun that he said he tossed nearby."

It was unclear where the teenager obtained the gun.

The killings follow a rash of mass shootings in the United States, including a weekend one in Texas that left seven people dead and 22 wounded, including a toddler.

Last month, a gunman killed 22 people and wounded another 24 in El Paso, Texas, while another assailant killed nine and injured 27 in Dayton, Ohio.

Armed Group Rushes Popeye's After Discovering Chicken Sandwich Is Sold Out

The chicken sandwich saga reached a new level of madness Monday evening when an armed group of people rushed a Popeye’s restaurant in southeast Houston.

Employees told an ABC13 reporter on the scene that a group including two women and three men rushed the door of the store after they were told in the drive-thru that the chicken sandwiches were sold out. They reportedly left a baby in their vehicle.

Staff told local reporters they were able to lock the group out of the restaurant. No injuries were reported, and police are working on a description of the suspects, ABC13 reported.

Houston Police confirmed to HuffPost that they received a call just before 9 p.m. regarding five or six people in a vehicle. They said one man pulled a gun on employees after Popeye’s ran out of the chicken sandwich, and that employees ran to the back of the restaurant.

The now-notorious Popeye’s chicken sandwich was at the center of a chaotic, chicken-filled whirlwind across the nation last month after the product went viral due to a Twitter war between the chain and competitor Chick-fil-A.

It was a menu item that no doubt ruined many a Popeye’s employee’s day as staff were reportedly forced to work hours of overtime to meet the massive demand. The chain announced they had sold out nationwide last Tuesday ― just over two weeks after launching the item.

Beto O’Rourke says AK-47 and AR-15 owners will ‘have to sell them to the government’ if he becomes president

Beto O’Rourke said he would implement a sweeping government buy-back policy for two types of assault rifles, including one commonly used in mass shootings across the US, if he were elected president in 2020.

The Texas Democrat responded to questions on the campaign trail Saturday in Charlottesville, Virginia, about concerns the government would take assault weapons away from gun owners.

According to a Buzzfeed News reporter, he said: “I want to be really clear that that’s exactly what we are going to do.” The candidate later shared that quote on Twitter, adding: "We need to buy back every single assault weapon."

Anyone who owns an AK-47 or AR-15 will “have to sell them to the government,” he added.
Mr O’Rourke, whose mandatory buyback programme is a part of his comprehensive gun control plan, has also called for a ban on assault-style guns and high capacity magazines, which he has also said would be required to be sold to the US government under his administration. 

Mr O’Rourke had made gun control a central focus of his 2020 campaign after suspending it to mourn with the community in his hometown of El Paso, Texas after a gunman stormed a Walmart earlier this month, killing 22 people and injuring 24 others.

The gunman in that tragedy used an AK-47 which he said he purchased overseas. 

That shooting occurred just hours before a gunman in Dayton, Ohio unloaded a pistol with 100-round drum magazines near a bar on a popular street for nightlife, killing nine people and injuring 27 more.

The high-capacity magazine allowed the shooter to fire rapidly at his victims, which included his sister.

Mr O’Rourke has also connected the spate of shootings with an apparent rise in violent white supremacy and the leadership of Donald Trump.

“With 40,000 gun violence deaths in this country, not all of them are connected to white nationalism, white supremacy or white terrorism, but ... you do have to connect the hatred, the racism, the president's words and actions with the accessibility of those weapons that afford someone the means to conduct this kind of terror in this country,” he said in an interview with NPR earlier this week.

“If I don't connect these dots, then I am complicit in the next mass murder or the next act of domestic terror,” he added.

Mr O’Rourke’s gun policies are among the most aggressive in the pool of 2020 Democratic candidates. 

Kamala Harris has also released a sweeping gun control plan that specifically targets domestic terrorism and white nationalists, while requiring near-universal background checks and banning the import of AR-15s. 

Cory Booker’s plan has also been hailed for funding gun violence research and requiring gun owners obtain licenses for their weapons.

Texas shooting: Family, friends rally to raise funds for injured 17-month-old toddler

Family members and friends are rallying to raise funds for a 17-month-old girl injured during Saturday's mass shooting in Odessa and Midland, Texas.


Five people were killed and 21 others were injured in the shooting, Odessa police confirmed. The incident began when a Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper conducted a traffic stop, and the man fired shots after pulling over, Odessa Police Chief Michael Gerke said in a news conference.

 

Among the injured was toddler Anderson Davis, KETK reported. There is a GoFundMe page set up for the child, who was airlifted to a hospital in Lubbock, the television station reported.

Haylee Wilkerson, who set up the page for the child, describes herself as a family friend.
According to the page, Anderson was hit by bullet fragments, leaving shrapnel in the right side of her chest and a hole through her bottom lip and tongue, KETK reported. The girl's bottom teeth also were knocked out, the television station reported.

“I ask you to continue praying for our hearts as we experience this, pray for complete healing of Anderson, pray for every other family in our same situation, or worse, today and pray for the shooters,” Wilkerson wrote on the page.

A goal of $100,000 was set, and more than $89,000 had been raised by Saturday night, according to the page.

Lyon (AFP) - A 19-year-old man was killed and another nine wounded, three seriously, on Saturday in a knife attack near the French city of Lyon, a regional official and emergency services said.
Two men, one armed with a knife and the other with a skewer, carried out the attack in Villeurbanne, a Lyon suburb, in southeastern France, the official said, without giving further details on the motive for the stabbing.

Boston (AFP) - US police fired pepper spray Saturday after counter-demonstrators accused them of protecting "Straight Pride" advocates who support President Donald Trump, and refused to let officers re-open a road.

The unrest came after the counter-protesters and "Straight Pride" group -- considered homophobic extremists by their opponents -- staged dueling rallies in Boston.

There was no serious violence during the rallies themselves, which involved groups of several hundred.

But after the "Straight Pride" group had dispersed, the counter-protesters accused police of protecting "Nazis," chanted "shame on you" and formed a human chain which police tried to get through, an AFP photographer said.

Officers fired pepper spray and made several arrests.

Earlier outside City Hall, in what is one of America's most liberal cities, people from the two camps stood close enough to yell in each other's faces and in a few instances threw coffee cups and soil at each other.

The demonstrations came as tensions simmer between leftists and white nationalists across the United States, and critics of Trump say his rhetoric has fueled extremism.

Black-clad riot police with batons and gas masks stood by in formation, ready to snuff out any trouble.

Many in the "Straight Pride" group wore capes or other attire bearing the US stars and stripes flag.
Some also bore Israeli flags, while the counter-protesters hurled chants of "Nazi" and "Free Palestine."

An AFP photographer saw the remains of several US flags that had been burned.
Before the more serious unrest, a couple of counter-demonstrators scuffled with police and threw dirt and eggs at them.

A group calling itself Super Happy Fun America organized the "Straight Pride" parade in response to the gay pride parades that take place, jamming the streets of US cities every year.

Critics say the "Straight Pride" organizers are white-supremacists whose intent is to bait members of the LGBT community in Boston.

The marshal of the "Straight Pride" rally was Milo Yiannopoulos, a prominent and provocative member of the far-right movement in America who has been banned from several social media sites.

 He also happens to be gay.

"My fellow homosexuals have been embarrassing me for decades," he told AFP. "Finally I found my crowd."

"Honestly, as a gay man, I have been embarrassed and attacked by my fellow homosexuals for most of my life, and these people feel like home."

He added that he stands for traditional Christian family values -- "even if I don't always live them."

- An 'oppressed majority' -

Rachel Domond, an organizer of the counter-demonstration, said she turned out to "stand up against this hatred that is here in Boston, and nationally."

Trump's rise, she told AFP, had made people like the white supremacists feel "empowered to say those statements and be more public about it."

Two weeks ago, a far-right rally and counter-demonstration by anti-fascist protesters in the city of Portland, Oregon passed with no major incident amid a heavy police presence.

Super Happy Fun America's website says Saturday's march was designed to "spread awareness of issues impacting straights."

It quotes the group's president, John Hugo, as describing heterosexuals as "an oppressed majority."
Massachusetts was the first US state to legalize same-sex marriage.

But the parade had a clear political slant too, as participants walked alongside pro-Trump floats. The group's website displays a doctored photo of Trump holding a sign saying #GreatToBeStraight.

A "Straight Pride" rally held the previous weekend in Modesto, California attracted only a few dozen people and about 250 counter-protesters, according to local newspaper The Modesto Bee.

A felony child pornography charge was not stopping Maurice Washington from playing in Week 1 for Nebraska. The running back received carries in the third quarter of Saturday’s game against South Alabama despite a court date in California on Sept. 3.

Washington is facing a felony charge for allegedly possessing a video of his ex-girlfriend (a minor) and a misdemeanor charge for distributing the video. The alleged incident happened in the spring of 2018 when Washington, a senior in high school at the time, allegedly got a video of the young woman in a sexual act. He then allegedly sent the video to her. The teen girl was 15 at the time the video was filmed.

Nebraska coach Scott Frost had said Thursday that he would make a decision close to kickoff whether or not Washington would participate in Saturday’s game. Washington went through warmups ahead of the game.

"The decision's going to be made before kickoff, before the game starts on Saturday, and I guess you guys will know then," Frost told reporters on Thursday via the Lincoln Journal-Star.

Washington finished with six carries for 39 yards in Nebraska’s 35-21 win over the Jaguars.

Washington was initially charged in February and has remained a member of the team as the case against him has progressed through court. He was also cited in June for marijuana possession by University of Nebraska police.

Five men have been sentenced to a total of 63 years for sexually abusing scores of young girls in Rotherham.

Aftab Hussain, 40, was sentenced to 24 years in prison, and Abid Saddiq, 38, to 20 years by the judge at Sheffield Crown Court, who described Saddiq as a “cunning and determined sexual predator”.

Masaued Malik, 35, was jailed for five years; Sharaz Hussain, 35, for four years; and one man who cannot be named for legal reasons was jailed for 10 years.

Malik was told that his sentence will follow on from a 15-year term he is already serving for similar offences.

The men were convicted of a number of child sexual abuse offences, including rape and sexual assault, as part of an investigation by the National Crime Agency (NCA).

Judge Michael Slater said that, after sitting through the trial of the five men, he was “quite satisfied” that the “relevant authorities” were well aware of the way vulnerable teenagers in the South Yorkshire town were being targeted for sexual exploitation more than a decade ago.

Judge Slater described this as a “lamentable state of affairs”, saying that the authorities at the time were at best “totally ineffectual” and, at worst “wholly indifferent”.

The NCA has said it believes 1,510 teenagers were exploited in the town during the period between 1997 and 2013.

Friday’s sentencing followed the latest trial to arise out of Operation Stovewood – the massive National Crime Agency (NCA) investigation into the sexual exploitation of teenagers in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013.

A total of 20 men have now been convicted as a result of Operation Stovewood and the NCA has said it believes 1,510 people were victims in the town.

Judge Slater praised the eight victims mentioned in Friday’s hearing, including one who sat in court for the sentencing and who said in a statement read to the court: “They took my childhood away.”
The judge said: “Nothing I can say to you can restore those childhoods of which you were so cruelly deprived by the actions of these defendants and others.”

He added that he was “particularly concerned” to hear that a number of complainants “expressed feelings of shame, guilt and self-loathing in relation to what happened to her and by extension to her family”.

He told the victims: “It seems to me the time for such wholly unjustified but understandable self-criticism and soul searching is over.”

The judge said the women should instead be praised for the “incredible resolve and bravery” they each showed to bring the men to justice and how they “stood up to ensure that what happened to her should never happened to young girls in the future”.


During the five-week trial, the jury heard that girls were targeted due their vulnerability and were given alcohol and drugs before some were raped by multiple men.

Violence was sometimes used to ensure they complied, the court was told.

Referring to the defendant who cannot be named for legal reasons, the judge said: “I cannot think of a worse violation of a young girl by those who purported to be her friends.”

Another man who cannot be named for legal reasons, who was also found guilty of offences earlier this week, will be sentenced at a later date, as will a seventh defendant, Mohammed Ashan, who pleaded guilty to sex offences at a previous hearing.

The NCA was invited in following the Jay Report which shocked the nation in 2014 when it outlined the scale of the offending against children in the town.

The agency now has more than 200 people working on Operation Stovewood, which had a budget last year of just under £12 million, and is looking to increase this as it works towards recruiting a staff of 250.

The agency said it has now engaged with 313 victims and survivors in the town and has identified 190 suspects.
